Chaos Achieved Through Control

Home | Character Analysis | Comparison Of Characters

This essay compares the two antagonists from Macbeth and One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest  who inadvertently cause the tragic deaths of McMurphy and Macbeth himself. From the way they interact one can see that Nurse Ratched and Lady Macbeth hold very similar personality traits.

One Flew Over the Cuckoos' Nest  Is a tragic novel by Ken Kesey about a man who fakes insanity to escape jail time. He is placed in an insane assylem where he comes into conflict with, The Big Nurse who doesnt appreciate his defiant attitude.

Macbeth  Is a timeless play written by William Shakespeare, about two Nobles who assasinate thier king, betray their country and take the advice of three evil witches. Eventually these two characters become so corrupted with greed and power that they lose sanity and control, and end up with tragic deaths.

The following are related sites about the two books.
